Lady Trojans Earn 20th Victory, Whip Mount Olive

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson College women's basketball team reached 20 victories for the first time in the history of the four-year program with a 90-56 CVAC victory over Mount Olive Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center. Anderson, 20-6 overall and 15-4 in the CVAC, has now won eight straight for the second time this season. The loss drops Mount Olive to 10-16, 6-13. Anderson never trailed. AC jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game and never looked back. Mount Olive got within 12 - 53-41 - with 16:06 to play, but then Anderson went on a 25-5 run in the next eight minutes to put the game away. Anderson, ranked third in the country in Division II in scoring this week, has scored 90 or more points ten times this season. The Lady Trojans, 10-1 at home, are now 17-0 when they score 80 or more points in a game. LaShonda Chiles led Anderson, ranked ninth in this week's East Region poll, with 23 points. She was followed by Deidra Langston with 13. Mount Olive's leading scorer was Ladora Charles with 17 points. The big difference in the game was turnovers. Mount Olive committed 36 turnovers which led to 49 points for Anderson. Anderson's bench outscored the Mount Olive bench, 32-12. Nicole Beasley came off the Anderson bench to make three 3-point goals. For the second straight game, Deanna Thompson reached double digits in assists for Anderson. She had 10 of Anderson's 27 assists against Mount Olive. Thompson also had six of AC's 21 steals. Mount Olive won the boards, 42-31. Mount Olive's Latoria Harvey was the game's leading rebounder with 11. Anderson closes out the regular season Sunday at home against Queens (N.C.).
