Lady Trojans Do It Again, Rally To Beat Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- LaShonda Chiles scored 28 points and made two clutch free throws with 18 seconds remaining to lead Anderson College to an 83-79 victory over Pfeiffer in a CVAC game Thursday night. For the second consecutive game, AC trailed by double digits in the second half but rallied to win. The Lady Trojans trailed by 14 in the first half -- 43-29 -- with 5:02 remaining and by 12 in the second half -- 53-41 -- with 13:36 to play. But Chiles and Decole Shoemate led a rally that tied the game at 63 with 7:12 left to play. Chiles made three field goals and Shoemate two during the Lady Trojan 22-10 run. With 1:01 remaining, Pfeiffer's Brooke Miseheimer made two free throws to tie the game at 78, the seventh tie of the game. AC took the lead for good when Stephanie Ponds scored a basket with 40 seconds remaining. Ponds finished the game with 20 points. After Chiles made two free throws, Deanna Thompson added one free throw with five seconds left to seal the victory. Chiles was 12-for-18 from the field and had eight rebounds and three assists. Ponds made 10 of 18 shots and had seven rebounds. Thompson added 13 points for AC. Pfeiffer, 7-14 and 3-11, was led by Emily Goad with 19 points. Anderson shot 51 percent from the field and averaged 1.08 points per possession. Anderson's victory gives the Lady Trojans a sweep of the regular-season series with Pfeiffer and sets up a showdown with CVAC leader Barton Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center.
