Lady Trojans Receive No. 6 Seed In East Region

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson College women's basketball team received a No. 6 seed in the East Region of the 2004 NCAA Division II Women's Tournament Sunday night. Anderson will travel to California, Pa., to play third-seeded West Liberty State on Friday. The winner of the Anderson-West Liberty State game will play the winner of the game between No. 2 seed Glenville State and No. 7 West Virginia State. Host California (Pa.) received the No. 1 seed and will play Charleston (W. Va.). The winner of that game will face the winner of the game between No. 4 seed Pittsburgh-Johnstown and No. 5 seed Barton, the CVAC regular-season champion. Anderson, the CVAC Tournament champions, is one of 22 schools to receive an automatic bid to the 64-team tournament. The regional winners will advance to the Elite Eight, which begins Mar. 24 in St. Joseph, Missouri. The Lady Trojans, 24-6 overall, enter the NCAA Tournament on a roll. They have won 12 straight by an average margin of 18.2 points per game. Anderson was one of the highest scoring teams in Division II this season at 85.3 points per game. The Lady Trojans have scored 100 or more points four times this season. Anderson is 20-0 this season when it scores 80 points or more. The Lady Trojans have 63 more assists, 86 more steals, and 124 fewer turnovers than their opponents this season. Anderson is led by CVAC Freshman of the Year and CVAC Tournament MVP LaShonda Chiles, who is averaging 18.4 points per game.
