St. Andrews Rallies Past Slumping Lady Trojans

LAURINBURG, N.C. -- St. Andrews Presbyterian outscored Anderson 14-4 in the final five minutes to beat the Lady Trojans 68-64 in a CVAC game Saturday night. St. Andrews, 9-11 overall and 6-7 in the CVAC, led 36-33 at the half, but Anderson rallied to take a 60-54 lead with 5:18 remaining in the game. The loss, Anderson's third straight, drops the Lady Trojans to 12-6, 7-4. St. Andrews took the lead for good with 2:25 to play after Karen Foggie was fouled on a 3-point attempt and made all three free throws. Two more free throws by Diana Martinez increased the Knight lead to 65-62 with 1:43 to play. Anderson got within one -- 65-64 -- on a field goal by Stephanie Ponds with 1:22 left. AC missed a chance to retake the lead with 43 seconds remaining when Diedra Langston missed two free throws. Martinez made two more free throws with 15 seconds remaining to give the Knights a 67-64 lead. A turnover ended Anderson's final possession of the game. St. Andrews, which lost to AC 90-60 on Jan. 10, was led by Martinez with 19 points and Foggie Mandy Coltrain tallied 11 points apiece. LaShonda Chiles scored 15 to lead AC. Ponds added 14, and Langston chipped in 11. Anderson shot 44 percent to 41 percent for St. Andrews, but the Knights were 13-for-16 from the line while the Lady Trojans were just 11-for-18.
