Lady Trojans Win Fifth Straight, Bounce Bobcats

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Diedra Langston scored 22 points and Shemika Reed had 15 points and career-high 15 rebounds to lead Anderson College to an 81-70 victory over Lees-McRae in a CVAC game Wednesday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 17-6 overall and 12-4 in the CVAC, has won five straight and is now 8-1 at home this season. Lees-McRae falls to 11-12, 8-8. Anderson seized a nine-point lead -- 27-18 -- with 7:01 remaining in the first half, but late 6-0 run by Lees-McRae cut the Lady Trojan lead to 35-34 with 2:01 left in the half. In the first eight minutes of the second half, Anderson built a 15-point lead -- 59-44, but the Lady Trojans never could pull away. Lees-McRae got as close as eight -- 76-68 -- with 2:57 to play. Deanna Thompson added 16 points, and Stephanie Ponds chipped in 12 for Anderson. Lees-McRae was led by Courtney Gogolinski with 16 points and Julie Hardison, Deanna Lady, and Lindsey Pope with 12 points apiece. Anderson shot 56 percent in the first half and 47 percent for the game, while Lees-McRae managed just 32 percent. The Bobcats suffered 25 turnovers, but they dominated the glass, 51-40.
