Road Warriors: Lady Trojans Beat Lees-McRae, 75-66

BANNER ELK, N.C. - Anderson College outscored Lees-McRae 17-8 in final five minutes to take a 75-66 CVAC victory over the Bobcats Monday night at the Williams Gym. Anderson, 19-6 overall and 14-4 in the CVAC, has now won seven straight. Fourteen CVAC victories in the most ever in a single season for the Anderson program. The victory also solidifies Anderson's second-place position in the CVAC standings. Anderson finishes the regular season 10-5 on the road. The 10 road victories is a single-season school record. Anderson was led by Diedra Langston with 18 points, LaShonda Chiles with 17 points, and Deanna Thompson with 13 points, 13 rebounds, six off the offensive glass, and 10 assists. With the game tied at 58, the fifth tie of the second half, Anderson got two free throws from Thompson, a layup by Langston, and an inside bucket by Stephanie Ponds for a 64-60 lead with 3:06 left. After a timeout, Langston made one free throw and Thompson canned a 3-point goal from the left corner to give the Lady Trojans a 68-60 lead with 1:36 remaining. Langston closed out the AC scoring with a 3-point goal as the shot clock expired to give the Lady Trojans a 75-64 lead with 18 seconds remaining. Lees-McRae, 12-13 and 9-9, was led by Taukia Hughes with 15 points and Amanda Huffaker with 13 points. Anderson shot 42 percent from the field to 36 percent for Lees-McRae. Led by Thompson, Anderson dominated the boards, 47-36. Sixteen of Anderson's rebounds came off the offensive board. Reed made two free throws with 15 seconds remaining to give Anderson a 34-33 lead at the half. The Lady Trojans held leads of 8-0, 22-12, and 27-18 in the first half. Trailing 27-28, Lees-McRae outscored Anderson 15-5 in a five-minute span to take a 33-32 lead with 34 seconds remaining. Anderson hit its first four shots of the game but finished the first half at 37 percent from the field. Lees-McRae took advantage of an early bonus situation. The Bobcats entered the bonus midway through the first half and made all 11 of their free throw attempts. Anderson will close out the regular season with two home games - Queens (N.C.) on Thursday and Mount Olive on Saturday. AC-Lees-McRae Box Season Statistics
