Softball Team Finishes Second In CVAC Tourney

FLORENCE, S.C. -- The Anderson College softball team finished second in the 2003 Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference tournament Monday at Freedom Florence. In the first game of the day, Angela Hauff provided a two-out single in the top of the 10th inning to send Anderson past Coker 7-6 and eliminate the Cobras from the tournament. Anderson, 2-0 against Coker in the tournament, used a two-run homer by Caroline Rochester to jump out to a 5-1 lead in the top of the fourth. After Coker's Summer Joyner tied the game at 5 with a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth, the two teams went scoreless until Hauff's hit in the 10th knocked the Cobras out of the tournament. The victory over Coker advanced Anderson to the championship bracket against regular-season champion Longwood. But Longwood ended Anderson's run in the first game. The Lancers got a two-run homer from Megan Camden in the top of the second and went on to post a 6-0 victory over Anderson and claim the tournament championship. Anderson finishes its most successful softball season ever at 32-22.
