Softball Team Gets Sixth Seed In CVAC Tournament

FLORENCE, S.C. -- The Anderson College softball team will be the No. 6 seed in the 2003 Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Tournament, which begins Friday at Freedom Florence. Anderson, 28-20 overall, enters the CVAC Tournament on a roll. The Lady Trojans have won five straight and have outscored their opponents during the streak, 31-4. Anderson, which has clinched its first winning season as a four-year program and its winning season ever in the CVAC (10-9), will face No. 11 Mount Olive at 11 a.m. Friday. If Anderson wins, it will advance to face No. 3 Queens (N.C.) at 3 p.m. Friday. Anderson is led by senior Caroline Rochester (.410, 10 doubles, 44 RBI) and the pitching duo of freshman Lauren Powell (15-9, 2.49 ERA) and junior Kelly McCrodden (13-11, 1.96). McCrodden has won her last three starts and has allowed just two earned runs in her last 19 innings.
