Anderson, Southern Wesleyan Split To Open Season

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Natalie Roebuck hit a grand slam in the seventh inning and also had a double to lead Southern Wesleyan to a 12-3 victory in the second game a split of a doubleheader against Anderson College Wednesday afternoon at Smethers Field. In the first game, AC freshman pitcher Lauren Powell struck out 13 to lead AC to an 8-0 victory in six innings. Both teams are now 1-1. Southern Wesleyan opened the second game with seven hits and six runs in the first two innings. In addition to Roebuck, Gina Gossett was 3 for 5 for the Warriors. AC's biggest hit of the second game was a two-run triple by Caroline Rochester in the third. Powell was in command most of the game. She walked just two, and at one point, struck out five in a row. She allowed just two hits and just one ball left the infield. AC got a pair of RBI singles in the first inning by Rochester and Powell. In the second, AC loaded the bases and then got a break when Carolyn Smith's fly ball to right was misplayed. The error cleared the bases and put AC ahead 5-0. Smith ended the game in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single. Season Statistics
