Softball Team Sweeps North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. - Lauren Powell pitched a four-hit shutout to lead Anderson College to a 7-0 victory and a sweep of North Greenville in a non-conference softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. In the first game, Shelly Sawyer hit the first home run of her career in the second inning and Carolyn Smith and Kristen Price both provided run-scoring singles during a four-run fourth inning to lead Anderson to a 6-3 victory. Kelly McCrodden went the distance in the first game for Anderson. After allowing three runs in the first inning, she allowed North Greenville just four hits in the final six innings. Cindy Crosby, PJ Taylor, and Katie Howard all had two hits apiece for Anderson in the first game. The victory in the second game was Powell's fifth of the season and her fourth shutout. Anderson scored all seven of its runs in the first two innings. After scoring one run in the first, the Lady Trojans sent 10 batters to plate and scored six times in the second. Angela Hauff, Crosby, Rochester, Smith, and Price provided five consecutive RBI in the inning. Anderson improves to 8-7 and will play five games in the Francis Marion Tournament this weekend.
