McCrodden, Price Help Savage Split For AC

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Kelly McCrodden pitched a no-hitter and Kristen Price hit a two-run home run in the first inning to lead Anderson to an 8-0 victory over Erskine in five innings in the second game and a split of a CVAC doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Smethers Field. In the first game, Erskine's Jamie L. Howell hit a three-run homer to highlight a six-run seventh and the Flying Fleet cruised to a 9-4 victory. Anderson now stands at 24-20 overall and 8-9 in the CVAC, while Erskine is 15-20-1, 7-11. McCrodden struck out four and walked none in five innings. Erica Waddell, who reached on an error in the first inning, was the lone Erskine player to reach base in the second game. In her last two starts, McCrodden, 11-11, has allowed no runs and just five hits -- all singles -- in 12 innings. She has allowed just two earned runs in her last 19 2/3 innings. Price, a freshman from Gilbert, S.C., got Anderson started in the first inning with her third home run of the season, a two-run blast to left field. An RBI single by Katie Howard and a ground out by Cindy Crosby brought home two more runs in the second to increase the Anderson lead to 4-0. In the fourth, Crosby provided an RBI triple and then scored on a wild pitch. The Lady Trojans closed out the game in the fifth. Carolyn Smith was hit by a pitch and scored on a triple by Shelly Sawyer. Sawyer then scored the final run of the game on a wild pitch. The first game was sloppy on both sides. Anderson pitcher Lauren Powell walked seven, hit one batter, and threw two wild pitches, while Erskine committed five errors, three in one inning. Anderson jumped out to a 3-0 lead through two innings in the first game but could not hold it. The Fleet got two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie the game at 3. Anderson scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead, but then Erskine erupted in the top of the seventh. The Fleet sent 12 batters to the plate and scored six runs to take a 9-4 lead. The big hits in the inning were Howell's three-run homer, a run-scoring double by Waddell, and an RBI single by Amber Price. Anderson will travel to Gaffney on Friday to take on Limestone.
