Lady Trojans Take Two From The Blue Hose

CLINTON, S.C. - The Anderson College Lady Trojans used good pitching and timely hitting as they swept Presbyterian 2-1 and 3-2 in a doubleheader at the PC Softball Complex Wednesday afternoon. Anderson (16-12) senior outfielder Katie Howard came to the plate in the second inning with the bases full and knocked a single down the right field line to score the only two runs the Lady Trojans needed to defeat the Blue Hose 2-1. That's all AC junior starting pitcher Kelly McCrodden needed as she got the win going all seven innings scattering five hits and striking out three batters. PC's (18-18-1) sophomore second baseman Amanda Teal scored the Blue Hose lone run in the third inning when she hit a RBI double to left field. Junior starting pitcher Brook Norris took the loss and falls to 8-12 on the season. The Lady Trojans picked up another close victory in the second half of the doubleheader, capitalizing on three Blue Hose errors. In the first inning AC put two runs on the board with two outs in the inning. A double to left center by sophomore catcher Carolyn Smith and a single by junior right fielder Shelly Sawyer scored the two runs to give the Lady Trojans the 2-0 lead. The Blue Hose fought back in the second and third inning and put one run on the board in each inning. In the second freshman designated player Katie Fite scored on a wild pitch, and in the third, Teal scored on a pass ball. AC broke the tie in the fifth inning when freshman left fielder PJ Taylor singled to drive in the winning run. Freshman starting pitcher Lauren Powell took the win for the Lady Trojans going the distance while scattering six hits, striking out six, and giving up only one earned run. For the Blue Hose freshman starting pitcher Samantha Slater took the loss and is now 5-7 overall. Anderson has won five straight and eight of its last nine.
