Gonsalves Blanks AC To Earn Split For St. Andrews

ANDERSON, S.C. - Tina Gonsalves pitched a six-hit shutout and drove in the only run of the game in the second game to lead St. Andrews Presbyterian College to a 1-0 victory over Anderson College and a split of a CVAC softball doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Smethers Field. In the first game, Angela Hauff had a two-run triple and PJ Taylor had a two-run single to lead Anderson to a 5-1 victory. Anderson is now 22-18 overall and 6-7 in the CVAC, while St. Andrews is 19-18, 8-6. In the first game, the Lady Trojans scored on single run in the first on two St. Andrews errors. Anderson added two more runs in the fifth on a fielder's choice, an error, and a one-out triple by Hauff. Anderson scored its final two runs in the sixth when Taylor brought home two runs on a two-out single to center. Lauren Powell went the distance for Anderson in the first game. She allowed just four hits, struck out eight, and walked four. In the second game, St. Andrews scored a single run in the first inning and then Gonsalves made it stand up. She allowed seven hits, struck out four, walked two, and stranded nine runners. Kim Makahilahila led off the St. Andrews first with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a fielder's choice, and scored on Gonsalves' double to left. St. Andrews missed several scoring opportunities in the second game. The Knights had 11 hits but stranded 14 runners.
