Softball Team Shocks Coker, Still Alive In Tourney

FLORENCE, S.C. -- The Anderson College softball team rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the top of the seventh inning to beat Coker 5-4 in the winner's bracket of the CVAC tournament Sunday at Freedom Florence. Trailing 3-1, Anderson got bunt hits from PJ Taylor, Katie Howard, and Angela Hauff to load the bases. Taylor scored on a ground out to make it 3-2, and pinch-runner Melissa Waters scored in a collision at the plate to tie the game at 3. Then with Hauff on third and Caroline Rochester on second, Kristen Price doubled to give Anderson a 5-3 lead. "That was the greatest win I've ever experienced as a head coach," said AC head coach Dana Jenkins. "The atmosphere was just incredible." In their second game of the day, the Lady Trojans dropped a 2-0 decision to Longwood. Lauren Powell allowed the Lancers just four hits and stopped their home run streak at 32 games. Anderson will play the winner of the Coker-Limestone game at 9 a.m. Monday. If they win, the Lady Trojans will face Longwood again at 11 a.m. in the championship bracket.
