ANDERSON, S.C. -- Caroline Rochester singled to score Angela Hauff in the bottom of the ninth and give Anderson College a 1-0 victory over Augusta State in the second game and a sweep of the Jaguars Thursday afternoon at Smethers Field. In the first game, Rochester provided a two-run single in the third inning and Anderson held on for a 3-2 victory. The sweep improves Anderson to 20-14 overall, while Augusta State falls to 18-17. The second game was a pitcher's duel between Anderson's Kelly McCrodden and Augusta State's Erin Cown. Neither team was able to score through eight innings. The best scoring opportunity for either team came in the second when Augusta State had the bases loaded with no outs and failed to score. The Jaguars came up empty in the eighth when Anderson right fielder Shelly Sawyer gunned down Augusta State's Jessica Mahaney at the plate for the first out. In the ninth, Augusta State had a runner at third with one out and failed to score. Cown allowed just two hits in the first seven innings. A double play ended the Anderson eighth, but in the ninth, the Lady Trojans pushed across the winning run. After Cindy Crosby bunted Angela Hauff to third, Rochester hit a sharp single down the right field line for her second game-winning hit of the day. McCrodden pitched 10 innings, scattered five hits, struck out one, and walked one. In the first game, Augusta State took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third on a two-run double by Michelle Weirauch, but Anderson answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. With one out, Hauff doubled to right. Crosby reached on an error and both runners moved up a base on an error. Rochester then delivered a single to give Anderson a 3-2 lead. The Jaguars threatened in the sixth in the seventh, but Anderson pitcher Lauren Powell managed to wiggle out of both jams. Augusta State left two runners on in the sixth and had runners on second and third with one out in the seventh but failed to score. Powell scattered seven hits, struck out six, and walked two to beat Augusta State's Ashleigh Mast, who allowed just five hits in six innings. Anderson plays host to CVAC foes Barton and Longwood this weekend. Game One Statistics Game Two Statistics Season Statistics
