ANDERSON, S.C. -- Osvaldo Haynes scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Randy Javois scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead eighth-seeded Anderson College to a 93-72 victory over ninth-seeded St. Andrews Presbyterian College in the first round of the 2005 CVAC Tournament Monday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 10-17 overall, snapped a six-game losing streak and beat St. Andrews for the first time this season after losing two regular-season meetings to the Knights. Anderson advances to play top-seeded Pfeiffer for the third time in less than two weeks. The Falcons won the first two meetings -- 72-62 at Anderson on Feb. 17 and 87-84 at Pfeiffer on Feb. 24. St. Andrews finishes its season at 12-16. Anderson's 93 points was a season high for the Trojans. The previous high was 87 against St. Andrews in a triple overtime loss on Jan. 15. The Trojans also set a school record for fewest turnovers in a game. Anderson committed just three turnovers. The previous record was five turnovers against St. Andrews on Jan. 20, 2003. Haynes, a senior from Greenwood playing in his final game at Abney, was 12-for-17 from the floor and grabbed seven of his rebounds off the offensive glass. Haynes has grabbed double-digit rebounds in 18 games and now has 302 rebounds this season. Javois, a junior from Anguilla, West Indies, was 7-for-10 from the floor and grabbed six offensive rebounds. Anderson won the boards -- 50-40 -- and won the second-chance points category, 33-18. Alfred Boykin added 18 points and Chris Poore chipped in 15 for the Trojans, who won for the first time since a 76-71 decision against Lees-McRae on Feb. 10. St. Andrews was led by David Truesdale with 14 points, Bobby Short and Taiwon Grooms with 13 points apiece, and Will Livingston with 11 points. After 11 lead changes in the first 10 minutes and two ties at 7:22 and 5:13, the Trojans went on a 13-3 run for a 41-31 lead at the half. Haynes scored three buckets during the run. The Knights got the Anderson lead in single digits four times in the second half. A 3-point goal by Short cut Anderson's lead to eight -- 68-60 -- with 9:17 to play. But from that point, the Trojans started pulling away. A 20-9 run in the next eight minutes gave Anderson an 88-69 lead with 2:04 left. Haynes scored five baskets during the run, including two putbacks. Anderson shot 48 percent from the field while limiting St. Andrews to 36 percent. The Knights did not shoot better than 40 percent from the field in either half. The Trojans averaged 1.39 points per possession. The Knights made 10 3-point goals and were 16-for-21 from the line. Anderson struggled from the line, making just 11 of 21. Box: Anderson 93, St. Andrews Presbyterian 72 Season Statistics
