ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- Alfred Boykin scored 12 points and Ronald Bowers added 10 points to lead Anderson College to a 51-50 victory over Claflin Friday night. The victory improves Anderson to 3-3 overall. The loss drops Claflin to 5-6. Claflin was led by Antonio Kelly with a game-high 15 points, and Alvin Greenwood with 11 points. Osvaldo Haynes, who had nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds, made two free throws with 1:21 left to give Anderson a 51-50 lead, and the Trojans hung on for their second straight victory. The Trojans trailed 25-23 at the half and 44-35 with 7:53 remaining. But a 7-0 run by Anderson -- two free throws by Boykin, a layup by Haynes, a free throw by Randy Javois, and a lay up by John LeSueur -- cut the Claflin lead to 44-42 with 5:32 left. After the Panthers extended their lead back to six -- 48-42 -- with 4:47 left, Anderson made another push to take the lead. Four free throws by Boykin, who was 8-for-10 from the line, and a 3-point goal by Ronald Bowers gave Anderson a 49-48 lead with 2:03 to play. A layup by Greenwood gave Claflin its last lead at 50-49 with 1:38 left. Both teams struggled from the field. Anderson shot just 31 percent for the game while limiting Claflin to 26 percent. the Panthers shot just 22 percent from the field in the second half. Anderson was 16-for-22 from the free throw line.
