MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- For the second time in less than a week, Pfeiffer pulled off a great escape against Anderson College. Pfeiffer rallied from an eight-point deficit in the final four minutes to beat Anderson 87-84 in a CVAC game Thursday night. The rally allowed Pfeiffer, 22-4 overall and 17-2 in the CVAC, to hold on to a share of first place with one regular-season game remaining. The loss ends Anderson's regular season at 9-17, 7-13. The Trojans, who have lost six straight, will have to wait until Saturday night to see where they will play in the first round of the CVAC Tournament on Monday. If Erskine beats St. Andrews Saturday night in Due West, St. Andrews will play at Anderson Monday at 7 p.m. If St. Andrews beats Erskine, Anderson will have to travel to Laurinburg, N.C., on Monday. Pfeiffer was led by Rico Grier with 28 points and DeMario Grier with 16 points. John LeSueur was Anderson's leading scorer with 21 points. Osvaldo Haynes and Randy Javois added 18 points apiece for the Trojans. Haynes also was Anderson's leading rebounder with 12. Haynes, a senior from Greenwood, has 17 double-digit rebounding games this season. Anderson led 39-32 at the half and 80-72 with 3:59 remaining. But the Falcons went on a 14-0 run led by the Griers to take an 84-80 lead with 1:42 remaining. Rico Grier made two 3-point goals and DeMario Grier made four free throws during the decisive run. Both teams shot 45 percent from the field. Pfeiffer was 22-for-31 from the line, while Anderson was 17-for-22. The Falcons scored 26 points off 19 Anderson turnovers.
