GREENWOOD, S.C. - Ronnie Dennis scored 19 points, including a key stretch of eight consecutive points in the second half, to lead Georgia College & State University to a 77-63 non-conference victory over Anderson College in the first round of the Bearcat Classic Friday night at Horne Arena. Dennis made 8-of-10 shots from the floor to lead the Bobcats, 2-0 overall. Aaron Clark added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds, and Andre Smith chipped in 11 points. Randy Javois led the Trojans, 1-1, with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Osvaldo Haynes, playing in his hometown of Greenwood, added 14 points and a team-high 12 rebounds, and Chris Poore also tallied 14 for Anderson. Haynes had 10 points in the first half to help stake Anderson to a 30-26 halftime lead. But Georgia College battled back, taking its first lead on a steal and basket by Dennis, to make it 41-40 with 14:25 to go. After three lead changes, Dennis hit a three-pointer, a field goal, and another three-pointer to give the Bobcats a 51-44 lead. Smith and Bryan Harrison hit back-to-back three-pointers to push the Bobcat lead to 63-52 with 6:26 left, and Smith hit another three-pointer to make it 70-54 with four minutes to go. Anderson outrebounded Georgia College, 45-39. The Bobcats shot 44 percent from the floor (28-of-64), 50 percent from the free throw line (11 of 22), and 40 percent from three-point range (10-of-25). Anderson was 40 percent from the floor (27-of-67), 67 percent from the line (8-of-12), and 14 percent from three-point range (1-of-7).
