BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Anderson College shot 55 percent from the field and used a 13-2 run midway through the second half to beat Lees-McRae 82-74 in a CVAC game Thursday night. Anderson, 4-4 overall and 2-0, placed four players in double figures. Osvaldo Haynes scored 19 points, Chris Poore tallied 13, and J.R. Howell and Randy Javois chipped in 12 apiece. Lees-McRae, 3-6 and 0-2, was led by Aaron Dugger with 19 points. Dugger was one of five Bobcats in double figures. Anderson shot 56 percent from the field in the first half to take a 40-31 lead at the break. After Lees-McRae rallied to take a 53-51 lead with 11:22 left to play, Anderson put together a 13-2 run for a 64-55 lead with 6:19 remaining. After Haynes, Howell, and Poore got the run started with one basket apiece, Javois scored two straight baskets and Boykin capped the run with a 3-point basket. In the final 3:45, Howell made a 3-point basket and four free throws to help seal the victory. In addition to shooting 55 percent from the field, Anderson made 20-of-24 from the line. Lees-McRae finished the game at 40 percent from the field. Led by Haynes' game-high 10 rebounds, the Trojans won the boards, 37-29. Anderson's 82 points is a season high. The previous high was 78 against Mars Hill on Nov. 17. Anderson's 55-percent field-goal percentage was its second-best shooting performance of the season.
