Trojans Snap Streak By Sliding Past Saints, 79-76

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Alfred Boykin made four free throws in the final 38 seconds to help Anderson College hold off a furious rally by Limestone College and give the Trojans a 79-76 victory over the Saints in a CVAC game Monday night. The victory snaps Anderson's three-game losing streak and improves the Trojans to 6-9 overall and 4-5 in the CVAC. The loss drops Limestone to 9-7, 5-4. Anderson built a 17-point lead - 59-42 - with 11:01 remaining in the game, but then Limestone started climbing back in the game. A field goal by Limestone's Darrell Tate with 1:52 remaining cut Anderson's lead to 70-68. But Chris Poore and Randy Javois both scored baskets for the Trojans in a 32-second span to put Anderson ahead, 74-68 with 1:09 left. A 3-point goal by Limestone's Brandon Shipman made it 74-71. Two free throws by Boykin pushed the Anderson lead back to five - 76-71 - with 38 seconds remaining. Shipman made another trey with seven seconds remaining to get the Saints back within two - 78-76. But the Saints would get no closer. For the second straight game, he Trojans were led by Alfred Boykin, who scored 19 points. Ronald Bowers came off the bench to score a career-high 16 points. Bowers was 4-for-7 from behind the arc. Osvaldo Haynes added 11 points and John LeSueur chipped in 10. Shipman was Limestone's leading scorer with 21 points. Tate added 16, Ben Touchberry scored 14, and Shawn Poppie had 12. Anderson shot 49 percent from field while limiting Limestone to 37 percent. The Saints shot just 30 percent in the first half. Chris Poore had a game-high 10 rebounds for the Trojans, who won the boards, 39-28. Anderson used a 15-4 run in the final six minutes of the second half to take a 36-29 lead at the break.
