ANDERSON, S.C. -- Erskine College rallied from a six-point deficit with five minutes remaining in regulation to beat Anderson College 68-66 in overtime in a CVAC game Monday night at the Abney Center. The loss was Anderson's second consecutive defeat in overtime. Anderson lost in triple overtime at St. Andrews Presbyterian last Saturday. Erskine, 4-8 overall and 2-4 in the CVAC, trailed 50-44 with 5:11 remaining before hitting the Trojans with a barrage of four 3-point baskets in the final 4:46. Matt Odom and Reed Long made two treys apiece to fuel the Fleet rally. Odom's second 3-pointer from the top of the key with seven seconds remaining tied the game at 58. Anderson's Chris Poore missed a short jumper that could have won it for the Trojans with two seconds remaining. In the overtime period, Odom drained two more 3-point baskets to give the Fleet a 64-60 lead with 3:24 left. After Long made a basket at the 2:40 mark to give Erskine a 66-62 lead, Anderson got a free throw and a basket from Odin Palacio in a one-minute span to cut the Fleet lead to 66-65 with 1:43 to play. A field goal by TJ Taylor put the Fleet up 68-65 with 1:28 to play. A single free throw by Osvaldo Haynes cut Anderson's deficit to two -- 68-66 -- and after getting a stop, the Trojans had a chance to win or tie with 20 seconds remaining. Alfred Boykin's 3-point attempt with three seconds remaining rimmed out, and Taylor claimed the rebound to end the game. The loss, Anderson's fourth in its last five games, drops the Trojans to 5-8, 3-4. Erskine was led by Craig Williams with 20 points, Odom with 18, and Long with 15. Odom was 4-for-7 from behind the arc. Randy Javois was Anderson's leading scorer with 13 points. Boykin, Haynes, and Ronald Bowers all had 12 points apiece. Led by Haynes, who had a career-high 19 rebounds in just 32 minutes, Anderson won the boards, 45-37. Parker and Williams had 11 rebounds apiece for Erskine. Erskine shot 47 percent in the second half to finish at 46 percent, while Anderson failed to break 40 percent in either half to finish at 36 percent. The free throw line was not a good place for either team. Anderson was 9-for-17, while Erskine was 7-for-15. There were just 14 turnovers in the game -- eight by Erskine and six by Anderson.
