ANDERSON, S.C. -- Limestone snapped at tie at 59 with a 5-0 run and held on to beat Anderson College 68-64 Monday night at the Abney Center. Limestone, 14-12 overall and 10-9 in the CVAC, led by eight -- 51-43 -- with 12:29 remaining, but Anderson used a 16-8 run in the next nine minutes to tie the game at 59 with 3:05 to play. Chris Poore made two baskets, and Alfred Boykin and John LeSueur made one 3-point goal apiece to lead the run. But after Poore's tying field goal at 3:05 mark, Anderson went on a two-minute drought. The Saints scored five points in the next two minutes to take a 64-59 lead with 1:19 left. Marquintus Jones and Brandon Shipman made one field goal apiece and Shawn Poppie made one free throw to give the lead back to the Saints. A 3-point basket by LeSueur got Anderson within three -- 67-64 -- with 12 seconds remaining. But a single free throw by Poppie with seven seconds remaining put the game out of reach for Anderson, which lost its fifth straight to fall to 9-16, 7-12. Limestone's Sumner Benton led all scorers with 19 points. He was followed by Jones with 14 and Poppie with 11. Anderson was led by senior Osvaldo Haynes, who scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in his final home game. Poore added 13 for Anderson.
