EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The 19th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team finished 2004 with a victory, defeating Anderson College, 94-61 Friday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record 7-3 overall, while Anderson falls to 3-4 in the 2004-05 campaign. The Screaming Eagles used a 19-3 run midway through the first half to take control of the game, jumping out to a 33-18 lead with 7:11 to play in the first stanza. USI was led during the run by junior forward Chris Thompson, who scored seven of his 15 points during the five minute stretch. The Eagles continued to build their lead in the second half, widening the margin to as many as 36 points, 80-44, with 8:52 to play in the game. USI shot 65.4 percent in the second half (17-26) while extending its lead. For the game, USI shot a season best 60.7 percent from the field (34-56). USI senior center Randy Holbrook led the Eagle offensive attack with 23 points. Holbrook and Thompson were joined in double-figure scoring by sophomore forward Geoff Van Winkle, who had 14 first half points, and senior guard Cris Bruson, who also scored 14 points. Anderson was led by Odin Palacio, who scored a career-high 20 points in just 25 minutes. Chris Poore added 15 for the Trojans. Both teams finished the game with 33 rebounds. Thompson also led the Eagles on the boards with 10 rebounds, recording his second double-double of the year. Randy Javois was Anderson's leading rebounder with nine.
