Anderson Rallies To Beat Queens, 83-79

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Randy Javois scored a career-high 27 points and Anderson College rallied from a 10-point deficit in the second half to beat Queens University of Charlotte 83-79 in a CVAC game Monday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 8-11 overall and 6-7 in the CVAC, trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half and by 10 with 18:55 remaining in the game. But the Trojans put together a 22-11 run to take a 64-63 lead with 6:22 to play. The Royals, 9-12 and 6-8, took the lead back one more time before a turnaround jumper by Osvaldo Haynes gave the Trojans a 68-67 lead with 3:57 to play. Anderson never trailed again. A three-point play and layup by Javois and a driving layup by Poore gave Anderson a 75-67 lead with 2:18 to play. A 3-point basket by B.J. Timmons and two free throws by William Kane got the Royals within two -- 79-77 -- with 21 seconds left. But J.R. Howell and John LeSueur made two free throws apiece to keep the Royals from getting any closer. Javois, a junior from Anguilla, West Indies, was 11-for-13 from the field. Osvaldo Haynes added 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Trojans. Haynes has pulled down 98 rebounds in Anderson's last seven games. LeSueur added 11 points, and Howell finished with 10 for Anderson. Queens was led by Esau Eatman with 27 points and Timmons with 19. Anderson shot 56 percent from the field, while Queens finished at 45 percent. The Royals shot 59 percent in the first half but cooled off to 30 percent in the second half. Anderson was 22-for-37 from the line, while Queens was 13-for-16. Led by Haynes, Anderson won the boards, 38-26. The Royals made 10 of 18 from behind the arc. In Anderson's last two games, the opposition is 24 of 39 from behind the arc.
