ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University men's head basketball coach Jason Taylor announced the signing of two prospects to national letters of intent on Thursday, one day following the first day of the spring signing period. The Trojans' first two signees for the 2007-08 season are Kevis Cornwell, a 6-foot-2 guard from York, S.C., and Brandon Young, a 6-2 point/combo guard from Belmont, N.C. Cornwell played at York Comprehensive High School for head coach Kendall McCarter. As a senior, Cornwell averaged 17.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and more than four steals per game. Cornwell was voted All-Conference, All-Region and was one of only two players from his area to be voted to the AAAA All-State team. As a junior, Cornwell averaged more than 17 points per game and was selected to the All-Region team. "We're very excited to have Kevis join our team," Taylor said. "We thought Kevis was as good of a guard as we saw all season in South Carolina. He has great length and quickness and the ability to score in a variety of ways. His ability to play any of the three guard spots will prove very valuable." Young played at Gaston Day High School for head coach Shaun Wiseman. As a senior at Gaston Day, Young averaged 9.5 points and 6.5 assists per game to lead his team to an appearance in the state semi-finals. Young spent the 2006-07 season prepping at Prince Avenue North where he averaged 17 points and 5.5 assists per game. "(Anderson University assistant coach) Jeff Brookman did an excellent job recruiting one of the best point/combo guards in the Gastonia/Charlotte area," Taylor said. "Brandon is another guard with exceptional length and quickness. "The main focus for my first recruiting class as head coach was to improve our overall team speed, quickness and athleticism. We have accomplished that with these two players. Both of these players should step in and compete right away for playing time."
