Limestone's Threes Too Much For AU

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Limestone made 12 of 24 shots from behind the arc, six in the final 13 minutes, to pull out a 72-68 victory over Anderson University Thursday night at the Abney Center. Limestone, 19-7 overall and 14-5 in the CVAC, led 35-25 at the half. But Anderson put together a 22-12 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half to tie the game at 47. Field goals by L.A. Sartor and Drew Keenan gave Anderson a 51-47 lead with 7:47 to play. From that point, there were five lead changes. A pair of 3-point baskets by Marques Williams, who was 6-for-9 from behind the arc, and Andre Coleman gave the Saints a 60-55 lead with three minutes to play. Two free throws by Keenan cut the Limestone lead to 60-59 with 2:04 left, but the Trojans were never able to retake the lead. Limestone placed five players in double figures. Williams led the way witih 18 points. He was followed by Terrell Smith with 12, Shawn Poppie with 11, and Marq Bell and Coleman with 10 apiece. Anderson was led by Nathan Russell with 19 points, J.R. Howell with 13, and John LeSueur and Keenan with 12 apiece. Thursday night's game was the final home game for Howell and LeSueur, Anderson's two seniors. Anderson shot 55 percent from the field, while Limestone shot 46 percent. Limestone had 26 rebounds to Anderson's 25. No player in the game had more than six rebounds.
