Crusaders Outlast Trojans, 69-59

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Amonzo Gantt scored 20 points and North Greenville shot 59 percent from the field on its way to a 69-59 victory over Anderson University in a non-conference game Thursday night at the Abney Center. The Crusaders, 4-6 overall, shot 58 percent in the first half (12-24) on their way to a 37-28 halftime lead. In the second half, North Greenville made 12 of 20 from the field (60 percent). Gantt was 8-for-12 from the field and also had a game-high nine rebounds and a game-high seven assists. Joining Gantt in double figures for the Crusaders were Jordan Richmond with 14 points and Andrew Nipper added 11. Anderson, 1-8 overall, was led by J.R. Howell with 17 points. Howell, a senior from Clemson, S.C., was 5-for-12 from behind the arc. B.J. Ware added 12 points for the Trojans. Anderson got within eight points twice in the first five minutes of the second half before a seven-minute scoring drought allowed North Greenville to build a 55-36 lead with 9:36 to play. Two 3-point goals by Howell helped fuel an Anderson rally that cut the North Greenville lead under double digits twice, but the Trojans could get no closer than nine points in the final five minutes. Anderson scored 20 points off 22 North Greenville turnovers. The Trojans suffered just 11 turnovers, but they shot just 35 percent from the field. Led by Gantt, North Greenville won the boards, 39-24. Anderson returns to CVAC play Saturday afternoon when St. Andrews Presbyterian comes to the Abney Center. Tip-off is 4 p.m. Box: North Greenville 69, Anderson 59 Anderson University Men's Basketball Statistics
