Queens Takes Control In Second Half To Beat AU

ANDERSON, S.C. - Queens University of Charlotte opened the second half with a 24-10 run and went on to post a 59-49 victory over Anderson University in a CVAC game Thursday night at the Abney Center. Queens, 15-6 overall and 11-3 in the CVAC, led most of the first half. But a 3-point basket by Anderson's Drew Keenan with two seconds remaining in the first half tied the game at 22 at the break. Chris Jones, who scored 14 points for the Royals, scored 12 of the 24 points during the decisive run. The Trojans, 3-18 and 3-11, got within six points three times in the final four minutes but could get no closer. Queens was led by Darnell Evans with 15 points. Anderson's leading scorer was Nathan Russell with 13 points. He was followed by Josh Beale with 10 points. Russell also had five of Anderson 11 assists. The Royals dominated on the backboards and at the free throw line. Queens had 43 rebounds, 20 off the offensive glass, while Anderson managed just 19 total rebounds. The Royals were 19-for-31 from the line, while Anderson was just 4-for-7. Jones was the game's leading rebounder with nine. Anderson shot 48 percent in the second half to finish the game at 43 percent. Queens shot 44 percent in the second half to finish the game at 42 percent.
