Oguchi Leads USC Aiken Past Anderson

AIKEN, S.C. -- Kingsley Oguchi scored 16 points and Ryan Schroeder and Casey McMasters added 10 points apiece to lead USC Aiken to a 73-63 non-conference victory over Anderson University in the USC Aiken Classic Saturday night. Anderson, 0-2 overall, was led by senior guards John LeSueur and J.R. Howell. LeSueur was 5-fo-10 from behind the arc and scored a game-high 21 points, while Howell tallied 19. Howell, who was 4-for-6 from behind the arc, was named to the all-tournament team. In the first half, USC Aiken limited Anderson to just six field goals as the Pacers pulled out to a 29-18 lead. The two big factors in the game were rebounding and the free throw line. The Pacers won the boards, 48-24 and had 22 offensive rebounds. USC Aiken shot 32 free throws, 17 more than Anderson, and outscored the Trojans by 11 points at the line. USC Aiken's Willie Metcalf was the game's leading rebounder with 11. Anderson shot 48 percent from the field in the second half to finish the game at 43 percent. USC Aiken shot just 39 percent from field. Anderson opens CVAC play Tuesday at Lees-McRae.
