Lady Trojans Win Eleventh Straight

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Mikala Fogle-Wilson scored 22 points and Anderson University opened the second half with a 13-0 run as the Lady Trojans beat Queens University of Charlotte 70-48 in a CVAC game Thursday night. "We made it a lot more interesting than I would have liked, but I thought we played with more energy, especially defensively, in the second half," said Anderson head coach Jeff Dow. "In the first half, we looked a step slow on everything." Anderson, ranked No. 20 in this week's Division II coaches' poll, won its 11th straight game to improve to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the CVAC. Queens falls to 4-8, 1-4. Anderson led 35-32 at the half but opened the second half with a 13-0 run for a 48-32 lead with 15:36 remaining. Latrice Thomas, who finished the game with 13 points, and Deidra Langston scored four points apiece during the run. Two free throws by Fogle-Wilson gave Anderson a 56-36 lead with 11:02 remaining. Queens did managed to get within 12 -- 58-36 -- with 6:38 to play but the Royals could get no closer. After eight lead changes, Anderson took the lead for good with 2:18 to play in the first half. Queens' 48 points marks the fourth time this season that Anderson has held an opponent under 50 points. Queens shot just 31 percent from the field, 25 percent in the second half, and committed 23 turnovers. Fogle-Wilson, a junior from Columbia, was 8-for-15 from the field and made two 3-point goals. Anderson shot 50 percent in the first half and 40 percent for the game. Anderson made more free throws (14) than Queens attempted (13). "You rarely lose when you win that stat," Dow said. "We want to put pressure on the defense, draw contact, and get to the line." Anderson's Genia Holbrook was the game's leading rebounder with nine. Anderson won the boards, 44-40. Ciera Brown led Queens with 15 points. Langston, Anderson's leading scorer, once again was saddled with foul trouble. Langston scored eight points in 18 minutes and finished the game with four fouls. "That speaks to our depth and balance that we can have a good performance and not have Dee Dee score 20," Dow said. Box: Anderson 70, Queens 48 Anderson University Women's Basketball Statistics
