ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University outscored Belmont Abbey 12-3 in the final three minutes to rally for a 69-61 victory in a CVAC women's game Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center. Anderson, 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the CVAC, has won five straight games. Belmont Abbey falls to 3-4, 1-2. Keana Boyd and Mikala Fogle-Wilson led Anderson with 19 points and 18 points, respectively. Deidra Langston, who was 8-for-10 from the line, added 16 points for the Lady Trojans. Belmont Abbey had three players in double figures - Sarah Reese 12 points, Courtney Naquin 11 points, and Jeanette Johansson 10 points. After five lead changes and three ties, the first half ended tied at 31. The Lady Trojans opened the second half with a 16-6 run for a 47-37 lead with 12:30 to play. Boyd made two 3-point goals and Fogle-Wilson made one trey during the run. But Anderson could not pull away. During the next 10 minutes, the Crusaders used nine free throws, two 3-point goals by Johansson and one 3-point goal by Courtney Naquin to seize a 58-57 lead with 2:56 to play. From that point, Anderson took control of the game. An inside bucket by Langston gave Anderson the lead for good at 59-58 with 2:35 left. Fogle-Wilson connected on a huge 3-point basket with 1:39 left to give Anderson a 62-58 lead. The Lady Trojans made seven free throws in the final 52 seconds to pad their final margin. Anderson was 23-for-33 from the line, while Belmont Abbey was just 11-for-15. Anderson dominated the boards, 23-8 in the first half but ended the game just plus-2 (35-33). Seventeen of Anderson's rebounds were off the offensive glass. Anderson's Genia Holbrook was the game's leading rebounder with eight. Belmont Abbey was 10-for-22 from behind the arc. Belmont Abbey shot 52 percent in the first half but ended the game at 42 percent. Anderson shot 36 percent from the field.
