SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Deidra Langston scored 27 points and Mikala Fogle-Wilson added 22 to lead Anderson University to an 85-64 victory over Converse in a non-conference game Tuesday night at the Hannah Gym. Anderson, 9-1 overall, jumped out to an 11-point lead in the first seven minutes of the game. But after Converse, 2-14 overall, rallied to take a 24-23 lead with 7:10 to play in the first half, the Lady Trojans bounced back to take a 40-35 lead at the half. "We struggled in the first half to pull away, but you have to give a lot of credit to Converse," said Anderson head coach Jeff Dow. "They played hard and were scrappy tonight. They had played two games since Christmas. It was our first game since mid-December, so it took us some time to knock rust off." Anderson opened the second half with a 16-4 run for a 56-39 lead with 13:42 left in the game. Converse got within 12 -- 72-60 -- with 3:22 to play, but a 3-point basket by Fogle-Wilson and eight free throws in the final 2:35 helped Anderson put the game away. "Our defense was much better in the second half," Dow said. "We held them to eight points in the first 10 minutes of the second half. It was an extremely physical game." Anderson made more free throws (26) than Converse attempted (25). Langston, a senior from Gainesville, Ga., was 11-for-16 from the line. She also pulled down seven rebounds, had six steals, and blocked three shots. "Deidra's points were hard earned," Dow said. "They were physical with her and bumped her everywhere she went." Fogle-Wilson made three 3-point goals. Keana Boyd added 14 points and Latrice Thomas added 10 for the Lady Trojans, who picked up their second victory of the season over Converse. Anderson shot 43 percent from the field and scored 29 points off 27 Converse turnovers. Converse was led by Kathryn McClain with 16 points. Anderson's Genia Holbrook was the game's leading rebounder with 10, seven off the offensive glass. The game was Anderson's final non-conference game of the season.
