Trojans Seeded Second in Southeast Region!

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Trojans have been seeded second in the NCAA's Southeast Super Region 3 and will face the winner of the third-seeded Carson-Newman/sixth-seeded Lander contest on Friday at host Lees-McRae as announced by the NCAA selection Committee Monday night. Friday's contest will mark the first-ever appearance by Anderson in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship, and the Trojans will square off against either Carson-Newman (13-4-1) or Lander (12-5-2). Lander won eight of its last nine contests and the second-seeded Bearcats upset top-seeded Flagler College in a shootout last Sunday afternoon to capture the Peach Belt Conference tournament championship. The Trojans defeated Lander, 2-1, in two overtimes in early October when Ryan Messick scored the game-winner off a ball that teammate Ben Jones played into the box with 3:33 remaining in the second overtime period. Carson-Newman entered the South Atlantic Conference Tournament as the top seed, but was upended by No. 5 seed Tusculum on a penalty kick with just 5:39 remaining in the match. The setback snapped a nine-match win streak by Carson-Newman. Anderson wrapped up the regular season ranked second in the region with a 12-2-3 overall mark before falling to eventual conference tourney champion Coker, 2-1 in the quarterfinal round of the league tournament. The Cobras, who were unranked at the conclusion at the end of the regular season, were not selected among the tournament's 32 teams. Anderson is led by all-conference selections Paulo Passini, Lasse Sohrweide and James Moseley on offense and senior Rayon Markland on the defensive side. Passini paces the Trojans with 30 points on the strength of a team-high 14 goals and scored in 10 matches, including three matches with two or more goals. Sohrweide is close behind, tallying 27 points on 12 scores and three assists. Moseley scored a goal and recorded two assists, including an assist on the game-winning score versus Queens and Markland is a dominating force in the air and a threat to score at any time. The winner of Wednesday's match will advance to meet the No. 2 seed Trojans in Friday's opening contest, with kick-off slated for 4 p.m. at the Bobcats' Tate Field. Tournament Bracket
