ANDERSON, S.C. -- The 15th-ranked Anderson men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against the number one-ranked Lees-McRae Bobcats in a double-overtime classic Tuesday night at the AU Soccer Field. Lees-McRae was able to get on the board first, in a very physical game that saw seven yellow cards. David Palmer was able to put one past Trojan goal keeper Benjamin Pepion 15 minutes into the game that gave Lees-McRae the early lead. The game remained in a heated deadlock, until the 85th minute when the Trojans won a free kick just outside the Lees-McRae box. Lasse Sohrweide was able to blast the kick around several Lees-McRae defenders and into the back of the net, tying the game. "We struggled early, then figured things out later in the match," said Anderson head coach Rob Miller. "We had a lot of guys that played hard and played well for us tonight." With the scored tied at the end of regulation, the game proceeded into overtime. Both teams had some chances in the first overtime, but none was better than the chance senior Paulo Passini had in the waning seconds. However, his right-footed shot with just seconds on the clock bounced off the right post as time expired. The Trojans had more chances in the second overtime period, but Rayon Markland's header glanced off the post, and another attempt from Passini went wide. "We played with a lot of heart and drive tonight," Miller said. "Our guys played with passion, and overall I'm pretty happy with the way we played." The tie advanced the Trojans' home unbeaten streak to 19 games, and Anderson moved to 10-1-2 on the season, 5-1-2 in Conference Carolinas. Anderson gave Lees-McRae their first blemish of the season as they move to 12-0-1 overall, 8-0-1 in league play. Anderson is back in action on Thursday when they travel to Limestone, with kick-off set for 4 p.m. Game Stats Season Stats
