Men's Soccer Earns All-Conference Honors

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Following a season that saw the Anderson men's soccer team equal a school-record 12 wins and climb as high as 11th in the nation in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, four Trojans have earned All-Conference accolades as announced by the conference office Thursday afternoon. Senior forward Paulo Passini and sophomore Lasse Sohrweide were named to the first team, while defender James Moseley earned second-team accolades and senior Rayon Markland was name to the all-conference third team. Passini, a two-time all conference honoree, ranks 15th nationally in goals per game and 19th in points per game and earned conference Player of the Week honors on Sept. 15. The 5-foot-10 native of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, leads the league points, points per game, goals and goals per game. He also notched a league-leading four game-winning goals during the regular season. Passini leads the Trojans with 27 points on the strength of a team-high 13 goals and scored in nine matches, including three matches with two or more goals. Lasse Sohrweide, who also brought home first-team honors last season, ranks 48th nationally in goals per game and 57th in points per game, while leading the conference in shots per game and ranks second in five offensive categories. The Flensberg, Germany, native scored two game-winning goals during the regular season and is currently second on the team with 23 points behind 10 goals and three assists. Sohrweide scored in seven matches, including three matches with two goals. Moseley, a sophomore from London, England, scored a goal and recorded two assists, including an assist on the game-winning score versus Queens on Sept. 12. Markland consistently provided leadership and anchored the backline while providing a dominant presence in the air. A native of Bull Bay, Jamaica, Markland earned conference Player of the Week honors on Oct. 27 and notched eight points on four goals, including the game-winning score on the road in the 2-0 win past Coker College. The fourth-seeded Trojans, who were ranked second in the southeast region, dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision to No. 5 seed Coker in quarterfinal round action of the conference tournament Tuesday night and will find out Monday, Nov. 9, if they have been selected to receive a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
