Markland Named Player of the Week

ANDERSON, S.C. -- After scoring his first game-winner of the season and helping lead the 13th-ranked Anderson men's soccer team to two wins and a draw versus top-ranked and unbeaten Lees-McRae, senior Rayon Markland has been named Conference Carolinas men's soccer Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Markland notched the game-winner on the road in the 2-0 win past Coker College and anchored a defense that helped the Trojans post a goals-against-average of 0.59 as AU surrendered just two goals in three matches en route to claiming two wins and battling Lees-McRae to a 1-1 draw last Tuesday at the AU Soccer Field. Markland led his team to a 2-0-1 mark on the week over three teams that are currently or have been nationally ranked this season. He is the second Trojan men's soccer player to be named conference Player of the Week this season, after fellow senior Paulo Passini earned the honor in mid-September. Anderson (12-1-2, 6-1-2 Conference Carolinas) returns to the pitch on Thursday when the Trojans visit USC Aiken for a non-conference matchup, then close out the regular season at Mount Olive on Saturday.
