Shugart Signs With Men's Basketball Team

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Taylor Shugart, a 6-foot-7, 225-pound forward/center from Rock Hill, S.C., has signed a national letter of intent with Anderson University, AU men's basketball coach Jason Taylor announced Wednesday afternoon. "Taylor's best basketball is ahead of him," Taylor said. "He is going to be a very good player for Anderson University during the next four years. He is going to add needed size and athleticism for us in the pivot. He can stretch out his offensive game right now to 15 feet." During his senior season, Shugart averaged 15 points, 9 rebounds and 2.5 blocks at Northwestern High School for head coach Mike Gossett. Shugart was named All-Area, All-Region and team MVP. Shugart, who will graduate from Northwestern High School in June, also was named All-Area, All-Region and team MVP as a junior. Taylor joins Nick Trull and Jovan Varagic as the third signee in the Trojans' 2008 recruiting class. "We're very excited about this class," Taylor said. "My assistants have done a great job all year long on the recruiting trail. We signed the three players we most wanted to be apart of the Anderson University family. I'm ready for August to be here and individual workouts to start."
