Pfeiffer Survives Anderson Comeback

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Pfeiffer survived a furious Anderson University rally in the first 11 minutes of the second half then pulled away for a 97-83 victory in a Conference Carolinas game Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center. Pfeiffer, 20-5 and 15-3, led 45-26 at the half and scored the opening basket of the second half to increase its lead to 21 points. From that point, Anderson went on a 33-13 run to cut the Pfeiffer lead to 60-59 with 9:39 remaining. Kevis Cornwell and Stephen Cobb had eight points apiece during the run for the Trojans. But then the Falcons took off again, hitting the Trojans with a 20-4 run that included four 3-point goals to increase their lead back to 17 - 80-63 - with 6:29 to play. Anderson got no closer than 10 points the rest of the way. The biggest stat of the game was turnovers. Anderson, 11-15 and 9-10, committed 30 turnovers, 22 in the first half, that led to 31 points for Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer was led by Chris Woods with 19 points. He was followed by Thomas Carr with 18, Robert McGriff with 15, and Logan Call with 12. Anderson's leading scorer was Brandon Young with 19 points. Cornwell added 18 for the Trojans. Cornwell was 7-for-9 from the field, 4-for-4 from the free throw line and also had seven rebounds. Anderson shot 57 percent from the field, 73 percent (24-33) in the second half, while Pfeiffer shot 42 percent. The Falcons had 22 assists on 34 baskets and committed just 12 turnovers. Led by Cobb who had a game-high 10 rebounds, Anderson won the boards, 50-42. Pfeiffer's bench outscored the Anderson bench, 48-23.
