Mount Olive Rallies Past Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Mount Olive rallied from a six-point deficit midway through the second half then held on to beat Anderson University 77-70 in a Conference Carolinas game Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center. Mount Olive, 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference, built a 13-point lead in the first half, but Anderson rallied to take the lead midway through the second half. Anderson, 3-8 overall and 1-3 in the conference, trailed 36-32 at the half and then fell behind by nine -- 41-32 -- with 19:21 to play. But Anderson put together a 14-4 run to take a 46-45 lead with 14:02 left. Freshman Brandon Young led the rally with eight points. Anderson increased its lead to six -- 52-46 -- before Mount Olive made its final push. A 10-0 run gave Mount Olive a 58-54 lead with 6:40 to play. Anderson got within one point four times but never managed to retake the lead. Mount Olive was led by Kendrick Easley and Brandon Streeter with 14 points apiece. Anderson placed four players in double figures -- Nayte Russell 18, Young 16, Jarret Johnson 15, and Stephen Cobb 11. Anderson shot 48 percent from the field to Mount Olive's 46 percent. Mount Olive outscored Anderson by 10 points at the line. The visiting Trojans were 21-for-32 from the line, while Anderson was 11-for-16. Mount Olive won the boards, 42-31. Streeter was the game's leading rebounder with 10. Mount Olive scored 44 points in the paint and had 16 second-effort points.
