Russell's Driving Layup Caps Miracle Rally

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Nayte Russell scored on a driving layup with six seconds remaining and Brandon Young tipped away a Limestone inbounds pass with four seconds remaining to lead Anderson University to a 75-73 come-from-behind victory over Limestone in a Conference Carolinas game Wednesday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 9-12 overall and 7-7 in the conference, trailed from the 17:13 mark of the first half until Russell's winning basket. Anderson trailed 39-25 at the half and 44-25 with 19:13 left to play. After Anderson cut the Limestone lead to 65-63 with 5:11 to play, the Saints, 5-14 and 2-11, got 3-point goals from Jamison Clark and Marques Williams to go back up eight - 71-63 - with 4:34 left. But the Trojans refused to fold. A field goal by Russell, a 3-point basket by Stephen Cobb, and two free throws by Russell cut the Limestone lead to 71-70 with 2:49 left. Two free throws by James Hudson, Limestone's only points in the final four minutes, put the Saints back up 73-70 at the 2:35 mark. A single free throw by Russell tied the game at 73 with 1:01 left and set the stage for Russell's game-winning basket. Russell led Anderson with 16 points. He was followed by Kris Fudzinskas with 14 points, Cobb and Young with 11 points apiece, and Kevis Cornwell with 10. Young, a freshman from Belmont, N.C., has scored in double figures in 20 of 21 games and has a current run of 17 straight in double figures. Limestone's Andre Coleman, who was 8-for-8 from the field and scored 22 points in the first half, finished the game with 24 points. Marques Williams added 15 for the Saints. Cobb grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds as Anderson dominated the glass, 43-27. Anderson shot 51 percent from the field, 57 percent in the second half, while Limestone finished the game at 44 percent. Anderson outscored Limestone in the paint, 34-18, and the Anderson bench outscored the Limestone bench, 29-12. The Saints were 11-for 24 from behind the arc.
