BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Anderson University rallied from an 11-point deficit to beat Lees-McRae 66-64 in a Conference Carolinas game Thursday night. "We needed something like this," said Anderson head coach Jason Taylor. "We needed to come back from a deficit and win a game. We took it to another gear, scored, and got some stops. The stops were the story." Anderson, 8-11 overall and 6-6 in the conference, trailed 53-42 with 8:09 remaining. But a 15-4 run by the Trojans tied the game at 57 with 2:54 remaining. Brandon Young and Kris Fudzinskas led the Anderson rally with five points apiece. A field goal by Fudzinskas with 1:02 remaining gave Anderson a 63-62 lead. Lees-McRae's Raysean Hairston made one of two free throw attempts to tie the game at 63 with 46 seconds to play. With 15 seconds remaining, Anderson's Kevis Cornwell scored a field goal to give the Trojans a 65-63 lead. Cornwell made the second of two free throws with seven seconds remaining for the final margin. Young led Anderson with 23 points. He has scored in double figures in 18 of 19 games and has tallied 20 or more points in Anderson's last four games. Young was 10-for-19 from the field and also had three assists and three steals in 40 minutes. "I'm glad Brandon is on our team," Taylor said. "He's going to be a special player. He is still learning." Following Young for Anderson were Cornwell with 11 points, Fudzinskas with 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds and Stephen Cobb with 10 points. Lees-McRae, 3-15 and 2-10, was led by Hairston with 19 points and Nick DeSchepper with 16 points. Anderson shot 45 percent from the field, while Lees-McRae shot 40 percent.
