Carson-Newman Downs Trojans

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman closed the first half with a 25-9 run and went on to post a 96-71 victory over Anderson University Saturday night. Carson-Newman, 4-1 overall, was led by Andy Tipton with 20 points and Zach Hyatte with 18 points. "We got two more shots than they did, but they shot 48 percent and we shot 34 percent," said Anderson head coach Jason Taylor. "We've got to hit the glass and we've got to make shots. It's an easy game if you make shots. "I wanted to see if we could run with them. In the second half, we played more ball control. I believe if we had played more ball control we would have been more competitive." Anderson, 2-5 overall, was led by Stephen Cobb with 14 points and Brandon Young with 13 points. The Eagles led 61-39 at the half. Hyatte also was the game's leading rebounder with 12. "They had 50 rebounds and we had 49," Taylor said. "We had 25 offensive boards because of our shooting percentage." Anderson returns home Tuesday night to face North Greenville at 7:30 p.m. Box: Carson-Newman 96, Anderson 71 Anderson University Men's Basketball Statistics
