ANDERSON, S.C. -- Trailing 49-45 with 6:05 remaining, Anderson University put together a 14-3 run and went on to post a 65-55 victory over Erskine in a Conference Carolinas game Monday night at a packed Abney Center. Anderson, playing for the first time in a week, used a 7-0 run in the final 2:10 of the first half to take a 32-28 lead at the break. After three ties and three lead changes in the first nine and a half minutes of the second half, Erskine got 3-point goals from Nick Riley and Brandon Wright to take a 46-42 lead with 9:48 remaining. Anderson's decisive run started at the 5:31 mark with a 3-point goal by Stephen Cobb. A three-point play by Brandon Young gave Anderson the lead at 53-52 with 4:13 to play. The Trojans never trailed again. A 3-point basket by Drew Keenan gave Anderson a 56-52 lead with 3:31 to play. From that point, the Trojans made nine free throws in the final 1:11 to put the game away. The victory improves Anderson to 6-9 overall and 4-4 in the conference. The loss drops Erskine to 5-9, 1-7. Anderson made 13 of its last 15 free throws to finish the game 18-for-28 from the line. Anderson was led by Cobb with 17 points and Young with 13 points. Cobb was also the game's leading rebounder with eight. The Trojans won the boards, 42-33, after outrebounding the Fleet, 24-15 in the second half. Erskine was led by TJ Taylor with a game-high 18 points. Both teams shot less than 40 percent. Anderson shot 38 percent to Erskine's 35. Both teams suffered 14 turnovers. Anderson had 20 points in the paint to Erskine's 14, and the Trojans outscored the Fleet by nine points at the free throw line.
