Comeback Kids: Trojans Rally Again

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University rallied from a 10-point deficit in the second half to beat St. Andrews Presbyterian 84-70 in a Conference Carolinas game Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center. For the second consecutive game, Anderson, 10-12 overall and 8-7 in the conference, rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half to post a victory. The Trojans came back from a 19-point deficit to beat Limestone last Wednesday night. St. Andrews, 5-17 and 4-11, led 34-29 at the half and built a 12-point lead early in the second half. Trailing 52-42 with 13:20 to play, Anderson went on a 42-18 run to close out the game and post its fourth victory in its last five games. Brandon Young scored 11 points and Kevis Cornwell tallied nine points to fuel the run. Cornwell, a 6-foot-2 freshman from York, S.C., led Anderson with 18 points. Young added 17 points, Jarret Johnson scored 13, and Nayte Russell added 11 for Anderson. The free throw line was a big key for Anderson in the second half. The Trojans were 18-for-20 from the line in the second half, while St. Andrews was just 2-for-4. For the game, Anderson had 22 free throw points to St. Andrews' 4. St. Andrews was led by Zack Garst with 20 points. Garst was 10-for-13 field. Anderson shot 51 percent from the field in the second half to finish the game at 47 percent. St. Andrews also shot 47 percent from the field. Anderson's bench outscored the St. Andrews bench, 38-15. Trey Britton, a 6-7 freshman from Alpharetta, Ga., came off the Anderson bench to grab a game-high 10 rebounds and score nine points.
