Queens Eliminates Anderson, 79-50

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Third-seeded Queens University of Charlotte outscored sixth-seeded Anderson University by 19 points from the free throw line on its way to a 79-50 victory in the first round of the 2008 Conference Carolinas Tournament Monday night at the Ovens Center. The meeting was the third between the two teams in 16 days. The two teams split during the regular season, both winning on their home floor. Queens, 20-8 overall, limited Anderson to 25 percent from the field in the first half to seize a 36-20 halftime lead. Queens was solid at the free throw line -- 33 for 37. Anderson was 14-for-23 from the line. Darnell Evans led the Royals with 20 points. John Thompson added 16 for Queens. Stephen Cobb and Brandon Young scored 13 points and 11 points, respectively, for Anderson, which ends its season at 12-16. Queens forced 21 Anderson turnovers that led to 20 points. Neither team had a great night from the field. Queens shot 37 percent, while Anderson managed just 34 percent. The Queens bench outscored the Anderson bench, 25-9.
