TIGERVILLE, S.C. - Brandon Young drained a 3-point shot with 2.8 seconds remaining to give Anderson University a 66-63 victory over North Greenville in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon. "Brandon stepped up and made a big shot," said Anderson head coach Jason Taylor. "He's been doing it the entire preseason in our scrimmages. He's not afraid to take the big shot. We put it in his hands and told him to make the decision. The only thing he did wrong was leaving them some time on the clock." Young, a freshman from Belmont, N.C., led Anderson with 14 points. He was 5-for-11 from the field and 3-for-6 from behind the arc. Stephen Cobb added 12 points and Jarret Johnson chipped in 11 points for the Trojans, 1-0 overall. North Greenville, 0-2 overall, was led by Andrew Nipper, who had 24 points and 11 rebounds. Anderson used stingy defense to build a 32-19 halftime lead. The Crusaders shot just 25 percent from the field in the first half. Trailing by 15 with 6:27 remaining, North Greenville rallied to tie the game at 63. Adam Griggs made two free throws with 20.6 remaining to tie the game and set the stage for Young's heroics. "We're excited about this team," Taylor said. "We played the final four minutes with four freshmen. That's exciting but it's also nerve racking. The guys on this team like each other, and they're going to play hard for each other." Anderson was 8-for-17 from behind the arc and made 5 of 10 shots from behind the arc in the second half. Anderson's next game is Monday at Coker.
