Pfeiffer Rallies To Beat Anderson, 80-78

MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- Pfeiffer rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit and got a late 3-point goal from Thomas Carr to pull out an 80-78 victory over Anderson University in a Conference Carolinas game Thursday night. Pfeiffer won its fifth in a row to improve to 11-4 overall and 7-2 in the conference. The loss drops Anderson to 6-10, 4-5. Pfeiffer trailed 44-28 at the half after Anderson shot a sizzling 58 percent in the first half. Two runs by the Falcons -- 11-0 and 8-0 -- cut the Anderson lead to 56-53 with 13:30 to play. A field goal by Stephen Cobb gave Anderson a 70-64 lead with 5:36 to play. Anderson held the lead until a 3-point basket by Carr gave the Falcons a 77-75 lead with 28 seconds remaining. A 3-point basket by Brandon Young cut the Pfeiffer lead to 79-78 with seven seconds remaining, but the Trojans could get no closer. Chris Woods led Pfeiffer with 16 points. He was followed by Carr with 15 points. Young, a freshman from Belmont, N.C., led all scorers with a career high 31 points. he was 13-for-23 from the field and also had three steals. Anderson shot 50 percent from the field to Pfeiffer's 42 percent. Cobb was the game's leading rebounder with nine. Anderson scored three more points off turnovers, but the Pfeiffer bench outscored the Anderson bench, 39-23. Pfeiffer was 10-for-32 from behind the arc, while Anderson was just 2-for-6.
