DUE WEST, S.C. -- Nayte Russell scored a field goal with three seconds remaining to give Anderson University a 61-59 victory over Erskine in a Conference Carolinas game Wednesday night. "We have several clearouts," Russell said. "That has penetration and a kick out. They moved out and I just weaved through the lane." Anderson, 11-14 overall and 9-9 in the conference, led 33-16 at the half after limiting Erskine to 17 percent from the field. The second half was a different story. The Flying Fleet used pressure and the shooting of T.J. Taylor, who finished with a game-high 35 points to get back into the game. The Fleet used a 12-0 run to cut the Trojan lead to 38-30 with 14:32 to play. The Erskine rally continued until the game was tied at 56 with 2:05 remaining. A single free throw by Russell and a basket by Young gave Anderson a 59-56, but three free throws by Brandon Wright tied the game at 59 with 12.6 seconds remaining. Anderson got the ball and ran out a clear out for Russell, who scored the game winner with three seconds left. "Nayte is one of the best finishers in this league," said Anderson head coach Jason Taylor. "He's definitely a difference maker for us." Anderson was led by Stephen Cobb with 19 points and Jarret Johnson with 13 points. Johnson also had a game-high 12 rebounds. Taylor was only Erskine player in double figures. Anderson dominated the glass, 46-28. Anderson's bench outscored the Erskine bench, 23-11. The loss drops Erskine to 6-18, 2-15. The victory keeps the Anderson athletic department perfect against Erskine in the 2007-08 Beville Cup competition. "I never was comfortable," Taylor said. "I told them at halftime we had to come out like we were 10 down. I am proud of the maturity we showed late in the game." Box: Anderson 61, Erskine 59 Anderson University Men's Basketball Statistics
