ANDERSON, S.C. -- Kris Fudzinskas scored on a putback with 14 seconds remaining and Kevis Cornwell made two free throws with seven seconds remaining to lead Anderson University to a 72-69 victory over Coker in a Conference Carolinas game Monday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 7-11 overall and 5-6 in the conference, led 63-59 with 5:14 to play. But Coker got five straight points from Mason Ambler and a basket by Lukas Varga to take a 67-64 lead with 3:01 to play. From that point, the Trojans put together a 7-0 run, capped by Cornwell's two free throws, to take 71-67 lead with seven seconds remaining. After Varga scored on a layup, Jonathan Mattox made one free throw for the final margin. In the first half, Coker, 6-13 and 4-8, took the lead and held it for the 14:30 of the game. Two free throws by Brandon Young gave Anderson its first lead - 26-25 - with 5:28 left in the first half. There were five lead changes in the final four and a half minutes of the first half. A layup by Stevie Evans with two seconds remaining gave Coker a 31-30 lead at the break. Anderson was led by Brandon Young with 22 points. Young, a freshman from Belmont, N.C., had scored in double figures in 17 of 18 games this season and has scored 20 or more points in Anderson's last three games. Cornwell added 15 points and Stephen Cobb scored 10 for the Trojans. Coker was led by Ambler with 17 points, Josh Poston with 14, and Varga with 11. Fudzinskas had seven rebounds and four other Anderson players had six rebounds apiece as Anderson's dominated the glass, 44-33. Anderson had 20 second-effort points to just four for Coker.
